Illinois Crime-Fighters Come through to Strengthen Neighborhoods

Perry Mandera

Thanks to the generous contributions of businessman Perry Mandera and other supporters, the Illinois State Crime Commission/Police Athletic League of Illinois (ISCC/PAL) continues to reach out with programs that benefit young people and the community. Perry Mandera, founder of the North America-wide transportation and shipping concern The Custom Companies, Inc., is among the donors whose efforts are making a positive difference in the lives of at-risk youth.

The ISCC/PAL’s work involves addressing the gaps in children’s lives left by inadequate public service infrastructure and the challenges resulting from peer pressure and fragile family networks. Hoping to offer a positive alternative to joining street gangs, the ISCC/PAL provides structure and guidance to young people through engaging sports and other activities.
Among the group’s programs are boxing and karate lessons and cultural dance events. In addition, its representatives host school fairs to provide much-needed school materials, dental care, and health check-ups. The group also distributes fresh, healthy food packages regularly to households that otherwise might not have access to nutritious meals.
