How the Walter and Connie Payton Foundation Helps Children in Need

Perry Mandera

Perry Mandera is founder and owner of The Custom Companies, Inc., a full-service transportation provider headquartered in Northlake, Illinois. As part of his community involvement, Perry Mandera sits on the Board of Directors of the Walter and Connie Payton Foundation, a nonprofit that works to help those in need achieve their dreams.

A legendary figure in professional football, Chicago Bear Walter Payton was active in philanthropy throughout his career, personally getting involved with children's causes to help those desperately in need. Today, the foundation continues his dream, with a focus on helping children who are in need or who have been neglected or abused through sponsored events and fundraising efforts.
Each year, the foundation holds a back-to-school drive, gathering supplies for children who may not be able to afford their own. Businesses and individuals can donate, with one backpack filled with supplies given to each child in need.
At Christmastime, a toy drive collects gifts for children in the community. Schools can register to sponsor a holiday gift drive, creating a friendly, fun competition to see who can collect the most donations. The drives teach the importance of giving back, promoting teamwork and encouraging children to support those in their community who need an extra helping hand.
